Background & History

With its extensive roots and partnerships, The Alliance engages in public policy and training to support community investment and generate economic opportunities and growth, including identifying gaps in community development financing. In September 2022, we began a transition from a CDFI lender to a CDFI Venture Capital Fund in order to establish an initial Micro Equity Fund, to become the first CDFI Venture Capital Fund in South Carolina.
The Alliance is governed by a board of directors includes representatives from CDFIs and financial institutions. Our trusted partner, SCACED, provides fiscal management direction and support, incorporates the Alliance in its annual conference, and provides communications and meeting planning assistance to the Alliance.
In 2018 the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond published, “South Carolina Community Capital Alliance Case Study.” by Jeanne Milliken Bonds which details the history of the Alliance.
